You ride your scooter through a dark tunnel and at the end of it you bang your head against an iron fence hanging at eye level. This happened to a 23-year-old woman from Almere late last year. She was considerably injured, and filed a claim for compensation. The insurer of the municipality of Almere recognised liability for the accident almost immediately, reports personal injury agency JBL&G.
The woman was driving through the tunnel in the P.J. Oudweg in Almere at night on 18 December last year, but fell at the end of the tunnel due to the impact against the low-hanging piece of iron. Why the fence was hanging at the top of the tunnel exit is still a mystery. However, photographs would show that the tunnel should normally have been closed due to works, but the road closure signs had been thrown aside that evening.
The victim sustained severe pain in her neck, shoulders, arms, jaw and head as a result of the blow. She also suffered a lot of concentration problems. She also has a scar on her chin. She needed help with housekeeping for a while, in addition there was disability and study delays. The total damages will be further calculated by JBL&G.
